Channel selection

Channels are used to group content based on filters and permissions. This practice is well known throughout the Internet; for example, in a Google search, results are grouped into images, news, maps, and shopping. In Picturepark, the system administrators set up the channel, which usually shows company business units, business cases, or distribution channels (such as partner portals). Channel selection varies depending on your company’s content management strategy.

There is always one root channel present in all Pictureparks. This channel cannot be deleted but can be permitted or restricted. For example, the root channel's name can be changed to All Content. The little arrow on the right indicates further selection options.

The channel selection in administration areas, where no further channels are available, for example, in list manager or layer manager, is used to display the menu selected. For detailed views, it shows a breadcrumb. In this case, the user is informed which menu they opened. The missing little arrow on the right indicates there are no further selection options.

Search

The search field is prominent at the top. When accessing Picturepark, a user can directly search by starting to type; there is no need to click into the search field.

The search has three modes, indicated at the top right corner. Click to switch the mode.

  1. Simple (all) searching for all words

  2. Simple (any) searching for any of the words

  3. Advanced allowing to have complex search queries

Browser

The browser shows elements in two different views:

  • Thumbnail - displays a preview for content items or icons, such as list items and a name (configurable as thumbnail display pattern). You can select small, medium, large, or extra-large thumbnail.

  • List - displays all information in a list view - similar to a spreadsheet format.

Select the menu icon to select a view. You can select whether or not to display an overlay.
In addition, you can see the selected fields, the display order, and the selected creation date.

The items in the browser can be selected using a mouse or keyboard (shift, control). The type of selection is only valid until the user switches channels or menu items. For "lasting" selections, select the checkmark at the top left corner, which puts the items into the basket.

The browser toolbar is at the top and shows actions available to active selected items from the browser. Unavailable actions are not displayed, so the available actions vary. The actions available also depend on your user role permissions (for example, edit options require edit permissions).

Sidebar

The sidebar is on the right below the search, and the whole panel is collapsible. If you need more space for content, use the arrow icon to close the sidebar. The sidebar usually has Filter, Collections, and Fields options. The sidebar is separated into tabs with the following options (if available):

  1. Filters

Select from the available options (metadata, media type, etc.) to filter the browser items.

  2. Collections

You can create, edit, or delete a collection. Content items can be added to a collection that can be saved, shared, and kept even if the user switches the menu or channel, whereas selection in the browser is removed after changing the menu or channel.

  3. Fields
This option is only available when you have selected List as the view option.
Select the fields you would like to display in the List view. This list is populated based on the content in your search results. For example, if you have only searched for image-type files, audio and video options will not be available. Note that relationship fields, dynamic view fields, and some EXIF options are not supported.

Notifications

Notifications are shown when specific actions are successful or unsuccessful. A user dragging content items (images, for example) onto the Content browser will start an import process. Notifications communicate the different states ("I have the files uploaded,” "I have rendered everything,” "I have imported to content browser," etc.) so the user is informed about what is happening in the background.

Notifications are available for:

  • upload (finished, failed, etc.)

  • import (finished, failed, etc.)

  • edit

  • share (sent, received, etc.)
